At the beginning of each year we have a parent/teacher information evening so that parents can meet their child's new teacher. At these evenings teachers will indicate the cirriculum they expect to cover through the year, expectations of children, class routines, homework, role of parents and generally discuss any issues that arise.
Interviews are also organised throughout the school at the end of Term 2 to discuss the progress of your child on an individual basis. Parents are encouraged to take these opportunities to discuss their child's progress as this helps to give a better understanding of your child.
Parents are invited to make an appointment through the office at any time they have a concern or to discuss a problem so that a mutually suitable time can be organised with the class teacher. It is inappropriate to disturb valuable teaching time to discuss a matter with a class teacher.
There is a regular program of assessment of individual pupil progress and formal reports are sent to parents at the end of the year based on the information gained through this process of continuous evaluation. As well the Department of Education and Training provides parents with results of state wide Basic Skills Testing which is administered in Years 3 and 5.
The school is visited by the District School Counsellor once a fortnight and is concerned with assessing children's potential and/or concerns. He is also responsible for developing programs which will cater for specific needs in consultation with class teachers and the Principal. He is available for interviews with parents after prior discussion with the class teacher and the Principal.
