School Philosophy and Aims

What we believe in:

The general philosophy of the school is to guide individual development in the context of society, through recognisable stages of development, towards perceptive understanding, mature judgement, responsible self-direction and moral autonomy.

Intellectual or academic progress has the highest priority and the major part of each day is spent developing proficiency in the skills of reading, communicating and mathematics. Social, emotional, physical and moral development are high on the school's list of priorities. The school seeks to develop in each child an honest self concept and high self-esteem.

Excellence and effort are recognised through merit Certificates and other awards.

At Leonay School we "strive to do our best", recognising that an effective school grows out of an involved committed community of students, staff and parents.

We are committed to:

  • Improving opportunities for developing the full potential of each child.
  • Promoting interesting and varied programs through a curriculum that is relevant and challenging.
  • Providing and promoting staff development at all levels.
  • Encouraging effective communication and collaborative action between students, staff, parents and community.
  • Providing an environment that enhances learning and well being and encourages pride and responsibility.
  • Encouraging community pride and participation in all aspects of the school.
